Project overview
Chilmington Green provides 5,750 new homes, as well as retail, community, social and recreational facilities. It has its own high street, a secondary school, four primary schools, a park and extensive green space.
Following the submission of the planning application in 2012, we advised Hodson Developments on transport planning and highways matters, liaising closely with Ashford Borough Council, Kent County Council and the Highways Agency.
Consent was achieved in 2016 and we took on the role of lead consultant and principal designer for the strategic infrastructure works. This involved coordinating architects, landscape architects and M&E Consultants to optimise the design process and minimise abortive work.
Our approach
Our strategy ensures that Chilmington Green is connected to the centre of Ashford by pedestrian routes, cycle connections and a dedicated, high frequency bus service.
We addressed drainage early in the process not least because it was integral to the functionality of the first and future phases of development. The design of strategic infrastructure roads and sewers were also prioritised, allowing land parcels to be accessed for development.
Having gained approval for all off-site accesses, we are now working closely with the local authority to obtain the same for infrastructure works, so works can commence on site as soon as possible.
