Project overview
As part of the Northern Line Extension, a new London Underground station will be created on Wandsworth Road at Nine Elms. Transport for London Property submitted a planning application to provide 332 residential units across four blocks, three above the new station. The fourth would provide 5,300 sqm of office floorspace. There would also be a new public square and new pedestrian and cycle routes between Wandsworth Road and the developments within the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea Opportunity Area.
The project was granted consent in 2016.
Our approach
Given the proposed development was above and adjacent to a new London Underground station, and limited car parking would be provided, the impact on the local transport network was not the main challenge. Instead, it was necessary to develop a servicing strategy that encompassed two locations and minimised the potential for conflict with pedestrians. This required significant design input and the preparation of a detailed Delivery Servicing Plan.
It was also not possible to meet the London Plan standards for disabled parking and cycle parking. Therefore, the draft Car Park Management Plan submitted as part of the Transport Assessment proposed to allow for the provision of both to be adjusted to meet future demand.
