Description
Retail-led mixed-use development including leisure, residential and employment opportunities
Project overview
The Chester Northgate development delivers urban renewal, transforming the north west area of the city centre. It provides new retail, leisure, residential and employment opportunities, accessed via a network of open shopping streets, parades and plazas.
A historic city, Chester is home to a number of significant archaeological remains, some within and around the Northgate development site. As such, extreme care was required in the design of structures, highways and services to minimise any impact.
Our approach
We worked closely with the project team, providing technical highways advice and masterplan support. Extensive consultation was coordinated with officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council regarding the scope of assessment and requirements for network traffic modelling of the inner ring road.
There were also a number of key stakeholders within the vicinity of the site who were consulted in relation to land acquisitions as well as stopping-up and the creation of new highways.
The design input and consultation culminated in the preparation of a comprehensive transport assessment, framework travel plan and transportation chapter within the Environmental Statement. Our team also gave support at a number of public exhibition events.
