Project overview

The Oval and Kennington Development Area (OAKDA) is five hectares of predominantly industrial land. Berkeley Homes developed a masterplan to regenerate the area and reconnect it with the surrounding neighbourhood.

For the first time in 150 years, this site will be open to the public and knitted back into the fabric of Lambeth. The listed gas holder, a local landmark seen by millions across the world as the backdrop to test matches, will be carefully restored.

The adopted masterplan has released the decommissioned gas works and some surrounding sites from industrial land designation through a Local Plan Review, and encouraged a comprehensive redevelopment of the area to create a new neighbourhood.

Our approach

Vectos worked with Berkeley Homes and Lambeth Council to produce the masterplan for the OAKDA proposal, which will deliver 1,250 residential apartments, one hectare of new public space and new pedestrian and cycle routes.
