Project overview
When complete in 2021, Victoria Square will offer 11,000 sqm of new retail floorspace, 400 residential apartments in two towers, a 190-bed hotel with conference facilities, spa and gym, space for a medical centre, additional car parking spaces and two new public plazas.
Working Borough Council and Victoria Square Development have appointed us to provide detailed design and highway advice for the delivery of this town centre regeneration project.
Our approach
Highways: We have led the detailed design for the S278 works required for the various phases of highway infrastructure. This has included pavement, drainage, lighting, traffic signals and signing for variety of roads including amendments to a town centre dual carriageway.
A public realm shared-use area has been created following close liaison with the local community and includes granite paving designed to BS7533 for traffic as well as safety measures for buses and control mechanisms to restrict certain vehicle types.
We are now retained to undertake the contract administration and project management of the highway works under the NEC Contract.
Transport: We assessed the transport effects of the scheme and proposed changes to the transport networks and worked closely with Surrey County Council and Woking Borough Council to reach agreement on the technical analysis and Transport Strategy for the scheme.
Road Safety: We undertook a Stage 1 RSA for the proposals consisting of two new signalised junctions on Henley Road, footway/cycleway amendments, a new signalised crossing, signalisation of roundabouts and a new car park on Westerfield Road.
